Skincare: Step 4 - Moisturisers

The final step of your routine should be to moisturise. If you skip out every single other step you should moisturise - it retains moisture and acts as a barrier between your skin and the polluted air.
It probably comes to no surprise that I only use moisturisers from Aveeno; this is mainly because it’s a brand that knows how to control my eczema. I used to use E45, which is heavy duty material and perfect but I became immune to it after using it for over a decade. I started using Aveeno when I went on holiday to India and my aunt recommended it to me – I’m not entirely sure if it was the Indian sun or the Aveeno which made my eczema disappear but whatever it was I’m thankful because I looked like the living dead every day before that.
I initially started by using the lotion, which was great and I still do use it but not generally on my face because my face has more dry areas as opposed to normal so I opted for the cream. There are two types of lotions:
1)   Daily Moisturising Lotion – This one is smooth and easy to apply - you only need one pump for your entire face maybe even less. It absorption rate is pretty slow but your face looks healthy. Try not to take too much because you can over moisturise and that can cause breakouts which is the opposite of what you want.

2)   Daily Moisturising Lotion with SPF – The huge advantage to this 2-in-1 product is that you won’t have to actually put on a separate SPF and it simultaneously moisturises your skin. I really like this moisturiser even though it's no different from the first. This is mainly because normally when using a separate SPF it leaves a translucent sheen whereas with this you don't get that weird effect.

Aveeno Clear Complexion (3) - I used this product throughout winter and currently at night, as opposed to a lotion this is a cream. The cream had a matte effect on my face so my face and although the product is thicker in texture it isn't difficult to apply. However, by the end of the day my T-Zone will be a bit oily but it does not look oily so I'm not too fussed. I take 3 - 4 small pumps from the bottle then dab it on my forehead, cheeks, chin, nose and jawline before using circular motions to rub it all in and I find that this is normally the perfect amount. On lazy days, I just squirt 2 full pumps and just put it straight on - I do try to avoid this because I end up missing areas of my face.

You can get the cream with SPF however I use my Daily Moisturising Lotion (with SPF) whenever it’s sunny or its generally warmer because when using a cream in the summer there is the risk of having an oilier complexion (in my case). You should always where SPF even if it’s snowing and you haven’t seen the sun in days because you’re exposed to UVA/UVB ray, all the time - so please do buy the SPF ones.

Aveeno Intensive Night Cream – is a nightmare, do NOT use it whatever skin type you have. What I’ve noticed is that anywhere you have dry skin it will burn and it feels like someone’s poured acid on your face – at first I thought this was because of the Soybean extract in it but that not the case so I’m not sure what it is. This product also causes me to breakout the morning after but thankfully I have a routine for when I’m about to breakout.

Saying that, this is the perfect hand cream– I’ve been using it as a hand cream for the past couple of months and my hands have never been any smoother so if you want did buy this product (or if you want a great hand cream), just use this because it works miracles. It is slightly too thick for a hand cream so after finally rubbing it all in you have to wait a couple of minutes for the product to actually sink in but it’s worth the wait.
I lied to everyone there is a moisturiser I use which isn’t from Aveeno. The Saem A.C Control Cream which actually does what it says it will - ‘control’ the natural oils on your face. I don’t think it works for longer than 12 hours because I occasionally find that my t-zone is slightly oily by then end of a long day but for a night out it is perfect. If I’m going for the no-make up look then I use this or I use this as a moisturiser before primer. The cream isn’t really a cream, in the pot it’s a translucent - white colour and absorbs into the skin really well and the texture is more like a serum than a cream. After it’s all sunk in it feels like there is nothing on your face – literally.

I hope this has helped if you have normal - oily skin then stick to the lotion but if you have normal - dry then go for the cream. The Aveeno products do tend to last a very long time, I haven't yet finished my 'The Saem' product but it's not something I use on a daily basis.
