thibyaa, out.

This year has been a tough year for everyone and it’s true that we have to be grateful for all that we have. However, some have lost more than others and sometimes saying, 'you should be grateful for what you have', may not be the nicest thing to say in the form of consolation. As much as I want to write about all the good things that have happened to me this year, out of consideration, I’m going to keep those to myself especially since I've had many low points too.

IC: At some point in first year, I didn't even want to be a nurse.

Please stop asking me, ‘when I’m going to medical school?’ Thank you. That’s all.

Joke. Maybe not so much a joke, as a question I get often is, ‘why are you not a Doctor?’ Not everyone is trying to be rude but unconsciously many people come across as such. Fortunately, I actually love my career so instead of ranting about the ignorant people, this post is about nursing & me. Please enjoy.

IC: Understanding identity

I’ve been trying to write this blog post for too long, maybe because actually addressing what makes you, you...is very difficult. Especially when you’re at a stage in which you are learning more about yourself. According to dictionary.com, identity is, ‘the qualities and beliefs...that distinguish or identify a person or thing’ or ‘the condition of being oneself’. Despite such a clean cut definition for it, for most people it’s inevitable that they will go through an identity crisis. So in this blog post I'm going to talk about what contributed to my identity and how I’m learning more about myself.

Black Lives Matter Part 4 - Offering a helping hand

There are many ways in which we can help and none of these take too long, if you were able to post a black square on instagram then this is easy.

Black Lives Matter Part 3 - Educate yourselves

I’ll put five for each way in which you can educate yourselves, there are countless other options so please look out for them and use your voice if you know of more.

Black Lives Matter Part 2 - The South Asians voices

Model Minority Myth is based on stereotyping. It perpetuates a narrative that Asians are intelligent, law-abiding and productive immigrants. Following the Second World War, South Asians were moved to the UK on the basis of being skilled workers. There is a perception that Asians are more likely to achieve success. This drives a wedge between brown and black communities.

Black Lives Matter Part 1 - What is Racism?

There is an overwhelming amount of information to go through so I’m going to start from the beginning of time.

The introduction of the black community into the UK started as early as the 16th Century (maybe even before) when Catherine of Aragon brought servants from all over Africa to England. Having a black servant at the time was deemed as fashionable and seen as a product of wealth. Queen Elizabeth I, discouraged the settlement of the Black community. This is what is recorded in history. But what does racism in the UK look like 5 centuries later?

A Guide to Saving Up

Saving up money is actually really hard. Let’s start there.

I couldn’t even grasp the concept of saving up when I was in university. I saw things I liked and I bought them (no, second thought). I got £400~ as a bursary every month and I also worked prior to going to university so had savings to lean back on as well. BUT, When I finished university, I had £0 to my name. Nothing. If you do the maths….that’s almost £15k without including my savings. I was happy. That’s all that matters. Right…? (it is!).
