Skincare: Eye Cream

Eye Cream’s are not necessarily a must in a skincare routine, I didn’t start using one till quite recently and this was because of my really bad dark circles that I acquired after years of school.

Before your 20’s you want to keep your eyes hydrated and when you enter your 20s it would be beneficial to use eye creams that slow down the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles as once you have both it’s quite difficult to reverse the process.
If you have dark circles then there are eye creams that younger people can use, as long as you know what the cause of your dark circles are. There are two types of dark circles: the more brown almost black ones and the more bluish-purple toned one.

Brown/Dark Brown dark circles are usually caused from allergies, not removing eye make up properly and genetics. This usually affects people with dark complexions - you’re looking for eye creams that will brighten the eye area.

Bluish-Purple dark circles are due to poor blood circulation and because the thinner the skin, the more prominent the blood vessels. This is more common amongst people with lighter complexions - you want eye creams that are going to soothe the skin as well as tighten the blood vessels.

Most eye creams will target hydration, elasticity, brightening and wrinkles/fine lines – for younger skin most people will be looking for hydration and brightening, as we tend to stay awake throughout the night and then end up with really puffy dark eyes. There are also a variety of eye massages that can be preformed to help with maintaining a healthier look.

In my case, I had allergies as well as lack of sleep so my eyes were generally always dry and I had no idea how to take care of it. Since I’ve started the whole skincare thing, I’ve done really well when it comes to taking care of my horrible circles.
I’ve mentioned this eye cream before and hands-down it was the most impressive eye cream I had used up until today. Superfacilist Vitamin C+ Dark Circles Eye Cream (£12.99) - this eye cream can only be used for 3 weeks, day and night, at any one time because it’s so rich in Vitamin C. It promises to “hydrate, revive & brighten the under eye area”, and over the course of 3 weeks you will definitely notice a difference. The only downfall with this product is that once you stop using it, the circles return…unless you have another eye cream to rely on whilst you’re not using this one.

The other eye cream, I’ve use is the Benefit It’s Potent EyeCream (£25.50), I’ve been using this eye cream for almost a month now and you can see a slight difference but not a massive one, however saying that when it comes to dark circles you have to wait around 3-4 months to see a huge difference so in three months time I will update you on this eye cream. (Also, the packaging was really cute).

Thank you for reading J

Tip: Don’t use normal moisturises as ‘eye creams’ - they’re too heavy for the skin under your eyes.
