20 things to do at twenty.

The second decade of my life has now reached its conclusion and to be perfectly honest, I would say that I’m nowhere near the adult world and am quite comfortable to stay where I am. Unfortunately, staying where I am is not an option. So on this journey, otherwise known as life, I’ve decided to come up with a bunch of things to do before I officially become an adult.

1. Master the art of eyeshadow application – I truly admire those that have the ability to flawlessly apply eye makeup; previous personal experience only come to show that I need more practice or I’m going to look 2 as opposed to 20.

2. Start visiting different countries and cities – this is technically a cheat ‘thing-to-do’, as I’m visiting Vancouver this year. I’m extremely excited and very broke after paying for the trip but I can do this.

3. Watch a movie at the cinema on my own – I’ve always wanted to do this, it’s really random but it’s just something that I’d love to do. I think I may go see ‘Me Before You’, as I’m a massive fan of Emilia Clarke (aka Daenerys of House Targaryen, the First of Her Name, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains, Mother of Dragons…you get the gist – unless you’re not a Game of Thrones fan).

4. Read a book this may sound like a really simple task but since becoming a university student, I haven’t read a good book in a while. Saying I have no time for it is an excuse so this is definitely something I should consider doing.

5. Knit a scarf it sounds like such a grandma thing to do but knitting looks awfully interesting. When I was younger I used to knit…on the computer, there was a knitting game where you could make these really cute patterns. Therefore, a grey scarf will be something I work on.

6. Abandon social media for a selected period of time on a daily basis – I’m temporarily working on a ward and what my colleagues and I, have noticed is that we are all obsessed with our phones and can barely keep our hands of the magnificent invention. However, I did once leave my phone in my room and focused on other things – at the start it was very difficult but as the day went on I felt that it was something I could do more often. It’s healthy.

7. Colouring in/therapeutic art – I’ve always been a massive fan of colouring in. Recently there was the ‘hype’ over adult colouring in books BUT I had already discovered this miraculous world before it’s rise to fame – JohannaBasford has a series of books that I love and the books had garnered a huge amount of attention last year.

8. Adapt a healthier lifestyle – this could be a result of working for the healthcare system but I’ve become much more aware of health problems and my own health and think this could be a good age to begin being healthier. By healthy, I do not mean cut out all food from life and live on vegetables or to lose weight – it’s generally an area that most forget and quite important for life in general.

9. To commit – I rarely ever enjoy long term commitment because normally it tends to be very boring. UNLESS I personally enjoy them but whether it’s to commit to a book (as you can see, this has epically failed) or committing to another person, I'm very bad. Commitment itself is a massive responsibility and could be a burden; basically, one must start small.

10. Go back to volunteering/giving back to society – I used to volunteer on a weekly basis and loved the interaction with the general public (after some time) - originally I was an extremely shy person, if thrown into an environment of strangers I could easily be mistaken for a cold, unsociable person but over time I was able to build on my interpersonal skills. However, this task can also be achieved by simply donating clothes or books etc.

11. Research into adopting or getting a puppy – I used to say that at 21 I wanted a puppy. Now 21 is only 11 months and 27 days away. I’m a pro at being organized, getting lots of information and collecting research but I’m also extremely good at procrastinating and letting work pile up so if I put it in my head now then I’ll eventually do it.

12. Explore England – as I live in this country, exploring the country would be much cheaper and better than leaving the country to see other beautiful places. I find that residing in a country often leads to just taking advantage of the place itself as opposed to actually looking and living in its beauty. Literally, most our lives pass by and as soon as we find some free time we flee far away before coming back to our normal routines.

13. Pick up a sport – I did have both yoga and dance in my ‘goals for 2016’ post but that dance routine is still yet to happen and yoga I actually went to for about 2 weeks but then my financial status plummeted to below sea level – I should probably also save up.

14. FIND A CONCEALER – On days that I actually wear makeup, I never cover up my flaws not because I’m trying to support the natural beauty crowd (which I support on those no-make up/lounge/cannot be bothered day) but because I am just too lazy to go and find a concealer that is perfect for me.

15. Get a massage/have a spa day – pampering myself on a weekly basis is a ritual I follow but this is normally only for my face in order to have healthy skin; however, I used to find that my entire body would be in knots everywhere and my muscles would all be tight and the thought of getting a massage crosses my mind but never happens.

16. Eat breakfast – every healthy woman has breakfast. That is something I am not. I generally sometimes just skip breakfast, again with the excuse that I have no time but something to note guys – you can never get back that meal you missed. Don’t miss a meal and eat your heart out.

17. Spend more time with my friends – yes, I am overly unsociable when not at university and especially when I’ve gone abroad, but the latter is excusable. Sometimes I forget I have friends and could probably sit in front of the TV for a whole week binge watching shows. By doing so I’ve just not seen many people I could have seen. This task is also a great way to accomplish task 12.

18. Get to know my cousins– As none of my first cousins actually live in England I know nothing about them or their families, which is ridiculous considering that I have such a large family. This flaw in my life became blatant quite recently when I was put in charge of buying my cousins presents for their birthday. I am still clueless and unsure of what to get them.

19. Take up a computing class and change the layout of my website – I’ve come to conclude that the only way I can improve the aesthetic parts of my blog is to learn how to make it prettier and also learn general basic things. I did do IT for GCSE but making a website was only one lesson and I also preferred the ‘making a game course’ – I made a really cool and awesome game (just saying).

20. Get a good camera – I’ve always had an interest in photography but never really built on it. As mentioned before, I’m a broke student, so there is no way I’m going to be buying an SLR (at the moment). Again this is something I need to do lots of research on and also understand the ‘anatomy’ of a camera before investing in one so we shall see how this goes.

Honestly, I’m not sure if I’ll do all of these but it’s here for when I think there’s nothing to do and being 20 will definitely be as memorable as all the years that have already past.

Thank you for Reading :)
